Hopefully at some point in your time at Harvest you have heard about Little by Little, an orphan prevention and local job creation project in Haiti run by Isabelle Stigge who attends our church. Essentially, they train Haitians to make jewelry so they can earn a living and support their families, then sell these items in Canada. The majority of orphanages are filled with children who have living parents, but whose parents are unable to provide for them financially. Little by Little is committed to preventing that trend by providing sustainable employment for families so they can stay together.
A team of 14 women from Harvest London are heading to Haiti from February 28th to March 7th.
The purpose of the trip is threefold:
1. To teach new skills to the Haitian LBL team such as crochet, sewing, and card making.
2. To disciple these teams through Bible teaching. Along with caring for the physical needs of families by providing employment, we want to minister to their hearts and teach them that God loves them and has a redemptive plan for them and their families.
3. While the parents are being taught, we would love their children to participate in a VBS. We are also hoping we can train Haitians to do this in the future. We are praying for a strong connection to a new Harvest core group that, God willing, will be launching in Haiti in January (we will visit this new Harvest church on the trip).
