FriFridayAugAugust26th2011 Changes to Higher Ground

Hello Parents,

As we move into September you will notice a lot of new things happening around Harvest Bible Chapel and a lot of new things happening in Higher Ground Children’s Ministry.  We are very excited about these changes. We hope that they will enhance what Children’s ministry works to achieve: a safe place for your children to learn about Jesus, but that is also clear and helpful to use for visitors and regulars alike.

First you will be noticing that we are doing things differently when it comes to registration. We will be having each family whether they are visitors or regulars go to the registration table (across from the coffee table in the lobby) to get name tags for their children.   The name tags will also have it clearly identified if the child has an allergy, which we have been seeing on a rise in children’s ministry.

We are using the new computer system (Fellowship One) to give each family a new call number each week to improve our security. Workers in Children’s ministry are excited about the fact that every child no matter what the age will now have a sticker with their name on it so that they can call children by their first name. As our numbers grow this will help make each child feel important.

You will also notice that we have changed some of the names of the classes to make things easier for all of us to remember. Here are a list of the classes as they will show on the signs as of September 11th;

0-18 Months – Nusery

19-35 Months – Toddlers

3 Year Olds – Preschool

4 Year Olds – Junior Kindergarten

5 Year Olds – Senior Kindergarten

Grade 1

Grade 2 and Grade 3

Grade 4 and 5

Grade 2 and Grade 3 are together again this year based on the size of the class.

To add to the safety and visibility of our workers, you will soon see workers in Higher Ground t-shirts as of kick off Sunday September 11th

 We hope this will help everyone know who to ask questions of about Children’s ministry and who to look for in emergency situations.

We are always looking for ways to improve, please let us know if we can be of help.

Send your emails and questions to or

God bless,

Penny Laird  and Lisa Young

FriFridayJunJune3rd2011 Fire drill this Sunday

Fire drills are a big part of being safe in children’s ministry at Harvest. Fire drills prepare both the children and the classroom workers for what they need to do in case of an emergency evacuation/fire.  The safety of each one of our children’s lives is of utmost importance to us as staff and workers.  That being said, we are going to be having a fire drill for just the Children's Ministry area this Sunday June 5th during both the 9 am and the 11 am service times with your children, from the babies up to the Grade 5 class. The drill will not include the adult worship.

During the fire drill we will be walking through an escape route with your children to instruct them on how to get outside quickly and safely with their classroom teachers.   If you are interested in checking out the fire route plan, each are located in your child’s classroom binder where you sign your child in.

In the case of an emergency we do ask that you as a parent would meet your classroom teacher on the tennis court, and for you not to attempt to come to the classroom.

This week we will be taking the children in the classrooms outside to the tennis courts (weather permitting), and bringing them back in safely to their classroom.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Penny or Lisa Young.

WedWednesdayMayMay25th2011 Signing Children In

I hope that you enjoyed the long weekend with your family and friends.  We just wanted to give you some updates on what is happening in Children’s Ministry;

Effective immediately if you are dropping your child off later than 9:05 am or 11:05 am for children in the JK (Hiker) room through to Grade 4/ 5 PLEASE bring your child through the backdoors of the cafeteria and there you will see located your child’s classroom sign in binder.

Make sure that you are signing your child in, please don’t leave them to go down to the cafeteria by themselves. This is for the safety and security of your own child that they are signed in.

If we don’t have a child signed in, in case of an emergency, we would possibly not be aware that your child was left in our care.  There is a table located at the backside of the room, which will contain all binders open to the correct service page, just waiting for you to sign them in.

Also, June 12th is the date we are moving kids ages 4 and up to their next class.

If you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact me.
