First of all – the primary way we will accomplish this goal of having our own home would be to pray.  So we can all pray. Start now, pray daily, pray fervently, pray specifically and pray without ceasing.

Here are some things you can pray about – and be specific God knows all and yet He says to us in His word, ‘you have not because you ask not’ (James 4:2).  So let’s ask Him together for these things:
    • For land – 10-15 acres (or more), zoned or able to be rezoned and within the range of the funds we have raised for land
    • For wisdom and direction for our facility team
    • For the funds needed to pay for 100% of our building.  The lower our mortgage the more resources we can put directly into ministry needs so pray that God would provide all we need and so we won’t be dependant on the bank or any worldly institution to pay for our building.
    • For continued facilities to rent until such time as we can move in our own building.  We are always at risk with renting and due to our size the risk is high so pray that God would continue to provide as He has for 9 years.
    • Pray for the plans as they are defined and refined – that God would give us wisdom not to build a facility which would limit what He is going to do but also would not waste ministry resources.
    • Pray that perhaps God would give us a building. We know of several other churches which were giving a building.  We are planning to sacrifice and work for our building but we know God does bless churches some times with a building so why not pray that He might do that for us!
    • Pray for continued fruit as we work toward our own building – that we would see more people come to Christ and more disciples grown up in their faith in the process of these next few years.
    • And finally pray that all our teams who are working in any way with our building program would be great witnesses and hold out a powerful testimony to those outside the faith who we have contact with.  Those at city hall, in the planning departments, buildings, developers, construction workers, architects, delivery people, etc.  Pray that we would see many of them come to faith in Christ.

So you can pray – that is the most important thing we can all do. But also consider entering into a faith promise sort of process with God.  The idea of faith promise giving has been practiced by churches for decades and is a wonderful way to stretch our faith.

The idea is simple – and I have modified it slightly for this situation – but here it is.  As a family or individual pray to God asking Him to provide extra funds for you which you will devote to the growth fund for our new building.  Just recognize in prayer before Him that you don’t have any savings to give (if this is the case could I put a plug in right here that you take our Financial Peace University course next winter when offered as it will help you adjust your life to begin to save money for specific reasons).  But back to the faith promise idea.  So pray and ask God to graciously and even unexpectedly provide extra income over the coming months for you.

Perhaps it will be overtime you didn’t expect, or a rebate on your taxes which you had no idea was coming, or a raise at work, or a long lost uncle dies and leaves you in his will, or someone just gives you money.  God is infinitely creative in how He provides when we get serious about giving what He provides for His work.

So decide now that you will give 100% (or whatever percentage you decide before Him) of any extra he gives you over the next 6, 12, 24 or 36 months).  And then keep praying that He will provide and get ready to give what He provides.  I truly believe that if you do this – and we all could do this even adding this to our donations we are already able to give – that God will pour out His blessing on you and that your faith will be strengthened even as the church is blessed by your donation.
